Ingredients

The Pinwheel Basics
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed and rolled
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup leftover chili or chili-seasoned cooked ground beef

Equipment

  • 1 Large flat baking sheet
  • 1 Wooden rolling pin

Method

The Rolling Phase
  1. Roll out the thawed sheet of puff pastry onto a flat, floured surface.
  2. Cover the entire surface evenly with the shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  3. Spread the leftover thick chili or chili-seasoned ground beef uniformly over the top.
  4. Douse the chili with an additional handful of sharp cheddar cheese.
  5. Carefully roll the entire pastry sheet over the filling tightly, much like you would roll a cinnamon roll.
The Golden Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°.
  2. Cut the long pastry log into 1 ½-inch slices.
  3. Place the slices cut-side up in a large baking dish that has been lightly sprayed with vegetable oil. Ensure you space them slightly apart to allow the puff pastry to expand and cook all the way through perfectly.
  4. Bake in the hot oven until the pastry is puffed and thoroughly golden, about 20 to 25 minutes.
