- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla

- 6 tablespoons milk
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup toasted pistachios, chopped
Instructions
Boil butter-cocoa mixture
- Preheat your oven to 350°.
- Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Melt 1 cup butter with 4 tablespoons cocoa in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Once the butter melts, pour in 1 cup very hot water.
- Boil for 1 minute, watching to make sure the chocolate does not boil over!
- Remove the pan from the heat and pour wet ingredients over the dry ones.
Make batter and bake cake
- Cool for several minutes.
- Whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla in a small bowl.
- Pour into the bowl and stir everything together.
- Pour the batter into a half-sheet pan (about 18 x 13 inches) coated with vegetable oil spray.
- Bake until a tester inserted into the cake comes out clean, about 18 to 20 minutes.
- Remove the cake from the oven to cool.
Make frosting and finish cake
- For the frosting, melt 1 cup butter in a saucepan.
- Stir in milk, 4 tablespoons cocoa powder, vanilla, and powdered sugar.
- Fold in the pistachios.
- Pour the frosting over the warm cake and smooth to coat the top.
