Witch's Harvest Punch
Combine apple cider, cranberry juice, orange juice, lemon juice and Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Simple Syrup in a large punch bowl or beverage dispenser, and refrigerate for at least two hours. Just before guests arrive, add plenty of ice and stir in the ginger ale. Float orange and apple slices, cranberries, rosemary sprigs, cinnamon sticks and a few star anise pods across the top, and ladle into ice-filled glasses, with bourbon and spiced rum set out on the side for adults.
An open house on Halloween is a beautiful, chaotic thing — neighbors, friends, and little trick-or-treaters all through the door at once. The drink that meets that moment has to please everyone, which is exactly what this spiced cider punch does, dressed up just enough to feel like an occasion.
Make the Base a Day Ahead
Stir the apple cider, cranberry juice, orange and lemon juices, and cinnamon-brown sugar syrup together and refrigerate overnight. That quiet rest lets the citrus and warm spices settle into one another, so the punch tastes deep and considered rather than merely mixed. Hold the ginger ale and fresh garnishes back until just before the doorbell starts ringing.
A Punch the Whole Party Can Share
The grace of this bowl is that no one is left out. Served as is, it is bright and spiced and perfect for children and trick-or-treaters; a small tray of bourbon and spiced rum beside it lets the grown-ups customize their own cup with about an ounce and a half. One beautiful punch, and everyone at the party gets to drink from it.

Notes
β’ Spiced Rum Recommend adding 1Β½ ounces to each glass of punch. This allows families and trick-or-treaters to enjoy the same beautiful punch while adults can customize their own. Jorj's Tip Prepare the entire punch base a day in advance. Refrigerate overnight so the citrus and spices have time to mingle. Add the ginger ale and fresh garnishes just before guests begin arriving to keep the punch bright and sparkling. For extra Halloween fun, freeze apple slices, cranberries, and rosemary sprigs into large ice rings or oversized ice cubes. They'll keep the punch cold while creating a dramatic presentation. Hosting a Crowd For 20 guests, prepare: β’ 12 cups apple cider
β’ 6 cups cranberry juice
β’ 4 cups orange juice
β’ 1 cup lemon juice
β’ 1 cup Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Simple Syrup
β’ 8 cups chilled ginger ale Serve from a large black cauldron or clear beverage dispenser surrounded by pumpkins, lanterns, flickering candles, and bowls of candy. If you're using dry ice for effect, place it in a separate compartment beneath the serving vessel or use food-safe methods so it never comes into direct contact with the punch.
The Heart of the Table
Hospitality at its warmest is the open door — the house that welcomes the whole street, costumes and all. A big spiced punch at the center of it is the edible form of that welcome, the thing that says there is a place, and a cup, for every soul who knocks.
The Art of the Host
Serve from a large black cauldron or a clear beverage dispenser with a ladle and ice-filled glasses, keeping the ginger ale chilled and separate to add at the last minute. For a dramatic touch, freeze apple slices, cranberries, and rosemary sprigs into large ice rings, and surround the vessel with pumpkins, lanterns, and flickering candles — if you use dry ice for effect, keep it safely below the punch, never in it.
Neighborly Grace
- The Presentation: Float thin orange and apple slices, fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks, rosemary sprigs, and a few star anise across the top for a beautiful autumn display, and ladle into ice-filled glasses. Frozen apple-and-cranberry ice rings keep it cold while looking suitably dramatic.
- The Vibe: A Halloween open house at dusk — pumpkins on the steps, candlelight in the windows, a doorbell that never stops and a house that welcomes every ring of it.
- The Flourish: Set out an adult version on the side — bourbon and spiced rum, about an ounce and a half stirred into a grown-up's cup — so families and adults enjoy the very same punch. For a crowd, scale the base into a great cauldron ringed with pumpkins, lanterns, and bowls of candy.
