Must-Have Super Bowl Snacks

Over the years I’ve given you tons and tons of ideas for your Super Bowl parties.

And over the years, I’ve encouraged you to use recipes as guidelines and substitute with what you have on hand to make your own special dish.

So, THIS year, I’m going to give you some swaps and ideas to make your favorite game day foods using a budget-friendly, pantry-raiding, fridge-exploring adventure and turning this into the BEST PARTY YET!!!

This year the focus is on a game day celebration that won’t break the bank…and here are a couple of secrets to help you get your game day face smilin’:

All you need is cream cheese, any other cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, Swiss) and a seasoning or two and you have a dip. Melt these together in a pan on super low heat and pour into a casserole to heat up later on.

Now look around. If you have some of these in your pantry or fridge…. you can create a dip for pennies. Add chopped artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, olives, salsa, or beans of any kind. You get the idea.

Then check out your spice drawer…. Add a pinch of oregano, cilantro, cumin, chili powder….. it’s all up to you.

Garnish with a bit of citrus or greenery. A slice of lemon or lime or the leafy top of a celery stalk will do here. Add any kind of chips or some carrot sticks and you have a dish… right from your fridge.

A yummy, gooey Game Day Dip.

Start with any meat or poultry. Leftover beef or chicken work here.

Or a package of ground meat from the freezer.

Sauté an onion in olive oil in a pan and add chopped bell pepper if you have one.

Add your leftover protein or brown your ground meat.

Now add any red thing you have in your pantry: Canned tomatoes of any variety, pasta sauce, pizza sauce, tomato paste (add some water here). Anything works.

Add any kind of canned bean…these all are good.

Now spice things up with chili powder and/or hot pepper sauce. Taste and season with salt and pepper.

When it tastes just right, simmer the chili to bring all the flavors together.

Serve with any kind of cheese and any veggie garnish, like chopped onions, avocados, tomatoes, jalapenos, and bell peppers. Chili in minutes for pennies!

Game Day Chili with a roasted butternut squash topper.

And they are a very economical cut of chicken. Buy the whole wing and cut it into its parts.

Save the tips for chicken stock and separate the flats from the drumettes.

The rest comes from your pantry and fridge.

Fry the wings in hot oil. Make a sauce from butter, a bit of vinegar (any kind) and hot pepper sauce.

Dunk the hot wings in the hot pepper sauce and that’s all she wrote!

Don’t have wings…. Check the back of your freezer for a bag of chicken nuggets.

Cook according to the directions and then dunk them in the sauce. Serve a little blue cheese dressing on the side, and you have the next best thing!

My favorite… the BEST wings ever!

Layout any chip you have onto a sheet pan.

Yes….Even a potato chip.

Top with canned beans, that you have drained and rinsed. Top with any cheese, any cheese.

Place it into an oven (350°) and bake until the cheese melts. Remove the pan and top with hot pepper sauce, salsa, sour cream, pickled jalapenos, avocado, cilantro (spice or fresh) or any of these things that you have in your fridge

Use any kind of bread that you have. Lay bread slices, half a baguette or the bottoms of rolls onto a sheet pan. Lay any protein you have on top…Sliced deli meat, leftover chicken, or cooked ground meat.

Top with any cheese you want.

Drizzle the top with your favorite condiment or condiment combination like mayo and ketchup, mustard and relish, ranch or thousand island dressing.

Cover with more bread slices or the tops of rolls. Brush the top with melted butter. Now bake these in a low (300°) oven until the cheese melts and everything is warmed through.

Cut your “sliders” into manageable, holdable pieces and dig in.
Turkey Burger sliders. Yummmmmm!
